This page contains the various `news' items that have been on the front page -- should you ever need to look at such things..!

  • 17/05/2006: The old-gits are planning a weekend away from the 27-29th May (bank holiday weekend). Contact Chris Jarvis (Yoda) if interested.
  • 17/05/2006: A minibus will be going to Arethusa on Tuesday 23rd, meet at the sports centre at 6pm.
  • 13/05/2006: Some climbers will be at Harrisons today (Saturday).
  • 27/04/2006: There'll be a walk on Sunday 7th, from Minster back to Canterbury along the Stour, meet 10am at Canterbury West Station (for the 10:15 train).
  • 29/03/2006: Last chance to come climbing at the sports center this academic year! (exams next term, boo)
  • 29/03/2006: Club photos will also be available at climbing tonight to pick up, sports-hall 7-9pm. If you miss that, email Mark (mms7), he'll be on campus 12-3pm Friday.

  • 31/01/2006: For anyone interested in the BUSA climbing competition(s), meeting tonight (Tues. 31st) at 6pm in Keynes bar.
  • 30/01/2006: Arethusa tonight as normal, meet outside the sports centre at 5:30pm.
  • 27/01/2006: Trip this weekend has been aborted (insufficient interest for camping in the cold and wet countryside!), some people were going to head down to Tunbridge Wells (and Harrisons rocks), but due to crappy weather aren't anymore.
  • 26/01/2006: The club AGM and elections will be on the evening of Thursday 23rd February (place and time t.b.a.). Let the committee know of any issues you wish to be raised (including putting yourself foward for one of the positions!).
  • 26/01/2006: There will be some people climbing in the sports centre from 7pm on Friday (27th), feel free to come along.
  • 16/01/2006: Arethusa tonight, meet at 5:30pm outside the sports-centre.
  • 07/01/2006: Welcome back for the new year! Climbing will commence at the sports-centre on Wednesday at 7pm. Planned trips to Arethusa this term are on the Arethusa page.
  • 21/11/2005: Reminder that there is no arethusa tonight, but a few people will be going (in cars) on Tuesday -- talk to John if interested.
  • 21/11/2005: Last-minute orders for hoodies (and late enquries about the Christmas dinner) get in touch with John or Jenny.
  • 11/11/2005: The trip to Wales leaves today. If you're on the bus, meet at the Sports Centre at 4:00pm, leaving by 4:30pm (it's a long way!).
  • 31/10/2005: Signup for the Wales trip (11-13th Nov.) is today in the K-bar at 5pm. (also Arethusa afterwards!)
  • 28/10/2005: On-campus bar crawl tonight, be at the K-bar before 8:30pm (at which point we'll move onto the other bard!).
  • 26/10/2005: Added some more pictures (Mendips, Jan. 2005).
  • 25/10/2005: Sign-up for the next trip (11-13 Nov) will take place in the K-bar at 5pm on Monday 31st October. Also an Arethusa night, meet at the sports centre at 5:30pm.
  • 22/10/2005: Added pictures from the Mendips trip (January 2005) and the recent Peak-District trip.
  • 22/10/2005: Added a couple of pictures to the misc. pictures page (more on the way!).
  • 17/10/2005: Climbing at Arethusa tonight. Meet at the sports centre at 5:30pm to sign our gear, leaving at 6pm. Also turn up if you're interested in the F&T group order, which will be made on Thursday.
  • 11/10/2005: There's a spare place for the trip this weekend! Anyone who's interested should mail Cat ASAP. A reminder of what to bring has been put on the outdoor page.
  • 08/10/2005: Sign-up for the trip (14-16th) will take place on Monday 10th at 5pm in the K-bar. You'll need club membership and £20.00 for the trip.
  • 03/10/2005: The social (on Thursday) will start in The Monument at 7pm, leaving around 7:30-8pm for The Swan.
  • 29/09/2005: The first social will be on Thursday 6th Oct., starting at The Monument, then The Swan, and into town. More details to follow.
  • 29/09/2005: The first visit to Arethusa will be on Monday 3rd Oct.. Meet outside the sports centre at 5:30-5:45pm, to leave at 6pm prompt. Arethusa membership costs £8.00 for the year, plus £4.50 each visit (which includes the minibus petrol cost). If you are able and willing to drive, please email Cat.
  • 26/09/2005: An "intro-walk" for freshers is planned for Sunday 2nd Oct. (and anyone else who wishes to join in!). Meet 09:30 at Canterbury West Railway Station, to catch the 09:50 train to Wye (this will cost about £5.00). Lunch will be bring-your-own or eat in the pub in Chilham; you will likely want to bring water and a waterproof too (if the forecast looks like rain).
  • 26/09/2005: To get to the west station from campus: go down the Eliot footpath, where it ends keep walking through the estate towards town until you meet a road going sideways (Forty Acres/Beconsfield Road), cross this road, go right a bit, then continue down another footpath towards town. This should take you past some playing fields. Follow the path round to the right at the bottom of the playing field, through the tunnel under the railway, which will leave you on Station Road West; the station is about 50 yards on the right.
  • 22/09/2005: Welcome back! And a warm welcome to the new folk. The mountaineering society will have a table at the fresher's fair (today/tomorrow, Eliot car-park/Venue), if you don't make that, would like to see climbing in action, or would like any further information, come to the sports hall on Wednesday 28th (evening).

  • 26/04/2005: For people who ordered hoodies/etc., you can collect from Jen and John in Keynes bar tomorrow (Wednesday, 2-4pm), Thursday (12-2pm) and probably sometime on Friday too -- will be posted on the mailing list.
  • 21/04/2005: Welcome back, hope you all had a good easter, etc.! Jenny is collecting ideas for the next social and/or climbing this term, mail her with thoughts.
  • 12/03/2005: The website has moved again! to somewhere more permanent: http://ukcmc.org/.
  • 24/02/2005: The club AGM (where we vote in next years committee) will take place tomorrow, Friday 25th at 7pm in KLT2. Social afterwards in Keynes bar. There will also be the sign-up for the club-dinner, at 6:30pm (before the AGM), choose your food!
  • 22/02/2005: Sign-up for the trip to Wales (and club-dinner) will take place this week probably -- stay tuned to the mailing-list!

  • 12/11/2004: The trip to Tremadog will be leaving today; meet at the sports center at 16:45. Details have been sent to the mailing-list.
  • 07/11/2004: Sign-up for the Tremadog trip (next weekend) will take place on Monday 8th (tomorrow), in Keynes Bar at 6:00 - 6:30 pm. Cost is £20.00, and you must pay before your name goes down!
  • 03/11/2004: Arethusa will be tonight (either bus or cars); meet outside the sports center at 6pm.
  • 02/11/2004: Reminder that tomorrow night (Wednesday 3rd) is our Venue night! Come along if you can!
  • 25/10/2004: Another walk is planned for Sunday 31st! Not as long as last time. Meet at 10:00 am outside Darwin College; bring a packed lunch or money for pub grub.
  • 19/10/2004: Important night changes: Arethusa will now be on Wednesday nights (meeting at the sports-center at 6pm). Climbing in the sports center will be on Thursday nights (from 7pm), followed by the usual drinks in Keynes bar afterwards.
  • 15/10/2004: For the trip leaving tonight, please be at the sports-center by 4:45, so that the busses can be packed and underway by 5pm.
  • 11/10/2004: The sign-up for the first trip will take place in Keynes Bar today (Monday) from 5:15pm to 6:15pm. There are a limited number of places, allocated on a first-come first-served basis. Cost is £20.00, covering petrol, accommodation and a meal on Saturday night; that must be paid before your name gets put down! (you must also be a paid-up member of the club, for insurance purposes). Once the spaces are filled, people will be put down `in reserve'.
  • 09/10/2004: The first club social will take place on Tuesday night (12th Oct.). Meet outside the sports center at 7pm, and make sure you wear something with belt-loops -- all will become clear ;-). First bar will be Woody's (Parkwood) if you can't be there at 7.
  • 09/10/2004: For the walk tomorrow, meet at 10:30 (Canterbury West), not at 10:00.
  • 08/10/2004: There will be a walk from Wye back to Canterbury on Sunday. Meeting at Canterbury West at 10:00; details have been circulated on the various mailing lists (members, freshers and old-gits).
  • 29/09/2004: The list of trips for this year is on the weekends-away page, more details to be added in due course.
  • 23/09/2004: Welcome back! The mountaineering society will be at the freshers' fair in the sports-hall on Friday 24th (11am to 3pm). A list of trips will appear in due course; the first trip will be in October.
  • 22/09/2004: The web-site has moved to http://ukcmc.frmb.org/, remember to update your bookmarks! The future of http://www.su.ukc.ac.uk/societies/mountaineering/ is uncertain.
  • 07/06/2004: That's it for this year folks! Have an excellent summer with lots of climbing (use the mailing-list to collaborate). Information relating to the 2004 Fresher's Fair will appear when dates/times have been sorted out.
  • 13/05/2004: For those finishing exams (or not!) there will be drinkies in Keynes from shortly after 1:30pm (Friday!).
  • 22/03/2004: Arethusa is on tonight as usual; meet by 6pm.
  • 15/03/2004: Note! Arethusa is back on tonight! Meet at 6pm, 6:10pm at the latest. New pictures on the pictures page.
  • 15/03/2004: No Arethusa tonight; people might be heading to Harrisons at the weekend, though.
  • 13/03/2004: Don't forget: venue-night this Wednesday (St. Patrick's Day, 17th March)
  • 01/03/2004: Reminder that there will be a social this Friday (5th March); on St. Patrick's Day (17th March), it is our club night at the venue.

  • 22/02/2004: Added new pictures to the pictures page, some from Alex added to this year's (February 2004) Tremadog trip, and some from Jake -- from a past trip to Tremadog (March 2003).
  • 20/02/2004: Arethusa on Monday (23rd) as normal (after the sign-up for the Peaks trip).
  • 20/02/2004: Trip to the peak district next Friday (27th). There are only 19 places, so the sign-up may be a bit of a bun-fight. Sign-up will take place on Monday (23rd) at 5pm in Keynes JCR (opposite the bar entrance).

  • 11/02/2004: Welcome back from the Tremadog trip. Photos (including the club dinner) on the pictures page!

  • 31/01/2004: Next year's committee has been voted in, details on the committee page.
  • 26/01/2004: The club AGM is on Friday 30th Jan., at 7:30pm in KLT2. Plans to see a movie and party after that -- be at the AGM for details ;-).
  • 26/01/2004: Arethusa tonight as usual -- be at the sports-center for 6:30pm
  • 22/01/2004: Trip to the lakes leaving Friday (23rd), really this time! Be at the sports center for 16:30, so we can be on the road before 5pm (it's a fair drive)
  • 15/01/2004: Important!: The hut was booked for the following weekend (23rd-25th), thus we're not going anywhere Friday. A trip to harrisons is on the cards for saturday -- mail Roland (rp34) if you're interested in going. The minibus will be leaving around 10am. If the weather is awful, the bus will probably head for a climbing wall somewhere.
  • 13/01/2004: Trip to the lakes leaving Friday (16th). Be at the sports-center around quarter-to-five for loading; want to be on the road around 5-ish -- the lakes are a fair way!

  • 08/12/2003: Many thanks to all those who came along to the Christmas Dinner. It was fantastic!. If anyone has pictures, feel free to mail them to me for inclusion on the webpages. I've got quite a back-log of pictures to deal-with. Something for the first week of the holidays..!
  • 01/12/2003: Club Christmas Dinner will take place Friday (5th Dec.). If you want to go (still a few places left), and you've not disposited, mail Ed. Plan is to meet in the Monument (St. Dunstans) at around 7pm, to be at the Dickens Inn for 7:30pm. After that, probably the Venue (might be an idea to get tickets before-hand if you plan on going).

  • 18/11/2003: Club photo! will take place Today! at 5:20pm in the sports hall. All members/committee are encouraged to be there, as it's a great way to remember the club (and all the fun you had!).

  • 28/03/2003: That's it for this year people! The new committee has been elected, and the old committee will transfer control over the coming months (before being put into cold storage). A few new pictures have found their way onto the pictures page too!
  • 04/03/2003: The club AGM will be held on Wednesday 12th March in Keynes lecture theatre 2. You need to attend this to vote for next years committee!
  • 04/03/2003: Wales trip (14-16th March) sign-up this Wednesday (tomorrow, 5th) in keynes bar. Wales will provide the venue for the club dinner and awards. Always a superb event, with much climbing, walking and merriment.
